Street Parties Events - Gros Islet 'Jump Up' - every Friday

In Gros Islet, St Lucia, the Friday night street party is known as a 'Jump Up'. Huge speakers play Soca and Reggae music and tourists and locals dance together. There are stalls selling food and drink but the party is free! There are some bars nearby if you need to sit down and rest after all that partying.

St Lucia Carnival 1-18th July 2001

After months of preparations and costume making the St Lucian carnival kicks off in July. People in colourful costumes and bands parade the streets. There are calypso, steel band and beauty competitions and a King and Queen of the Band will be selected and given a prize.

 

St Lucia's Jazz Festival, 4th-13th May 2001

The Jazz Festival happens in Castries - the capital of St Lucia, the Carribbean's biggest Jazz event. Jazz on the Square is a popular event at Derek Walcott Square. Artists like Luther Vandross and Ladysmith Black Mambazo perform on Pigeon Island at the North of St Lucia.
